A rewinder is a specialized piece of equipment used for paper, mica tape, and film. Its purpose is to rewind paper rolls (called base rolls) produced by a paper machine sequentially, resulting in finished paper rolls for shipment. The use of AC drives instead of DC drives in rewinders has become a trend in the paper machinery industry.

Paper rolls produced by paper winding machines are relatively soft, may contain internal damage or breaks, have uneven edges, and often lack the width to be directly used in paper processing or printing machines. Most paper types (such as newsprint, letterpress printing paper, and packaging paper) must undergo edge trimming, slitting, splicing, and rewinding on a core in a rewinder to form finished paper rolls with specific specifications and tightness requirements before they can be shipped.
