A first and second winding roller define a nip gap through which the core is inserted and the web is fed; and at least one pair of motorized couplings for engaging the ends of the winding core and transmitting rotational motion to the core during at least a portion of the winding cycle of the package.
The couplings and the first and second winding rollers are thus manufactured and arranged such that the package being formed contacts the first and second winding rollers; furthermore, a third winding roller is provided, which defines a winding space together with the first and second winding rollers, the third winding roller being movable to allow the winding of each package to increase and complete within the winding space.
