The web slitter is an automated equipment used to longitudinally cut wide rolls of materials (such as films, paper, aluminum foil, non-woven fabrics, etc.) into multiple narrow finished strips; it is a core piece of equipment widely utilized in the roll material processing industry.
Equipment Structure and Working Principle
The web slitter is mainly composed of four major parts: unwinding system, slitting system, winding system and control system.
Unwinding System: The web slitter is to smoothly unwind the large‑roll material and feed it into the machine for processing. To prevent malfunctions during processing, two "small helpers" are installed on it: one controls tension to ensure consistent pulling force on the material; the other manages positioning and keeps tracking the edge of the material. This ensures that as the material advances, it will neither alternate between loose and tight states nor deviate from its path or develop wrinkles.
Slitting System: This is the core functional unit of the equipment. Different types of cutter assemblies such as rotary cutters, straight‑bladed cutters or air knives can be configured according to different material and precision requirements. The tool holders of modern equipment are usually driven by servo motors. Combined with high‑precision ball screws and linear guide rails, they can achieve a slitting accuracy of ±0.1 mm or even higher.
Control System: The web slitter generally adopts a PLC control system paired with a touch‑screen operation interface. Operators can easily set key parameters such as slitting width, running speed and winding tension, and monitor equipment status in real time. Some devices also integrate functions including automatic meter counting, fault alarm and material‑break shutdown.
The coil slitting machine features a wide scope of application, with a typical operating speed ranging from 10 to 350 meters per minute, and certain high‑speed models can reach even higher speeds.
